You will find the North Carolina State Fair in October in Raleigh, NC. It's a ten-day event, whether you prefer free games, hiking, free entertainment, fireworks, carnival food, or watching cute animals in love. You will find two hotels within walking distance of the fairgrounds, Ramada Inn and Comfort Suites. However, both hotels are filling up fast, so you may want to book ahead.
Fair food is mixed with carnival flavors and southern comforts. You’ll find Carolina BBQ and fried catfish, but you will ruin your sugar-free diet in a bite of the fried Candy Bar. Yes, a whole bar of candy is frozen, soaked in cake and fried with golden goodness. There is also a Cinnamon Bun Saloon in the fairgrounds, it is rumored that the fair has the best Cinnamon Buns and Hot Coffee.
If you like racing, check out Circle C Racing Pigs for Agricultural Impact. Several times a day at Hogway Speedway, breed piglets, duck wolves and goat pigs can be seen throughout the race.
Yesteryear Village is very popular with marketers. Usually there are over 75 exhibits all showing past activities. Craft artists display only fine glassware, needles and leather pieces, selling them at the fair they are interested in. Come see the artists turning the wool into yarn, weaving the fabric into the fabric, and turning the fabrics into useful objects. There is also a range of original pottery, beadwork and carvings.
Folk music is a success at this fair and is a competition that runs throughout the entire Folk Festival. Musicians from around the world come to the festival to compete for the Bascom Lamar Lunsford trophy. The award is given to people who best represent North Carolina's musical heritage. In this event you will find bluegrass, square dancing and even rumors.
While you're at the fair, don't forget to watch the free fireworks every night. If your child doesn't go to Kiddieland Fun Park or stop by and chat with the Mobile Robots who walk around the fair.
